Claudia Kay Hoover Allen,
MA, OTR, FAOTA
Claudia Kay Hoover Allen, MA, OTR, FAOTA, is internationally
respected for her specification of how to use remaining abilities to engage disabled
people in meaningful activities. Ms. Allen believes that assets and limitations must both
be recognized. Functional outcomes, however, put remaining abilities to use in doing
activities that are interesting to the individual. Her work has expanded to include all
age groups and any diagnosis that produces a diminished capacity to think. Always on the
forefront of how advances in the understanding of the human mind can be incorporated into
practice, Ms. Allen is known for stimulating changes in practice. Her numerous workshops
and publications are enjoyed because she helps therapists articulate the value of their
services and produce functional outcomes that are realistic, meaningful, and reimbursable.
Several professional roles are fulfilled by Ms. Allen: Chief of Occupational Therapy
at Harbor /UCLA Medical Center ; guest lecturer at USC; guest lecturer at Loma Linda,
guest lecturer at mount St. Marys, Allied Health Consultant for Blue Cross of
California; and Health Care Consultant to S & S Worldwide. Her 1987 Eleanor Clarke
Slage lectureship was entitled "Activity: Occupational Therapys Treatment
Method". She currently resides in Los Angeles, Ca.
